"He (my son) began the reading tutoring in the spring of his second grade year and was tested at essentially a full year behind in most areas. The improvement in decoding skills, fluency and finally confidence was easy to see as we read together each night. His fluency testing at the school went from below grade level to 2 points shy of proficiency by the last testing in the spring. He went into 3rd grade this fall after the summer reading program with Sylvan had him testing at grade level. His first quarter grades reflected his improvement as he made the A honor roll. "We started at Sylvan when our nephew came to live with us in 2001. He could not read a Dr. Seuss book when he was in the 4th grade. The school put him in an IEP for reading and we were told that it was something he would always have. We knew that Shawn didn't have a learning disability but that he never got the basic of learning how to read. We tried summer school but were very dissatisfied with it. We put Shawn in Sylvan for 1 1/2 years and saw immediate results. Shawn was out of his IEP classes by the 7th grade and was taken out of the IEP program all together by the 8th grade. Shawn graduated high school last year something I am sure that he wouldn't have done if we didn't put him in Sylvan to learn how to read."
